The Labour Day Classic is about making memories, and it will be unforgettable for Saskatchewan Roughriders linebacker Jaden Dalke. He was shaken up on the kickoff cover team.
“I went down, got blocked in the back, got hit awkwardly on the turf, and it was on kickoff, so I was going pretty quick. Then all of a sudden it was just like numb through my arm, and it was a burning sensation through my neck.”
The medical staff continued to assess Dalke on the sideline.
“We did some strength tests with the docs in the tent, and they were feeling around on some vertebrae, and that was painful. The tent went down, I gave the thumbs up to my mom, and then we walked underneath into the locker room, where they put a neck collar on.”
Next, Dahlke was taken for a CT scan.
“The doc and I just had to run over to the hospital. Luckily, he pulled some strings, knew some people, and it wasn't too busy, so we got in and out in less than 20 minutes.”
“Then I came back and saw a bunch of the guys just leaving the locker room for the second half. We had to wait until I got my CT scan back; I got cleared, I was able to take the brace off, and then I was ready to return.”
A football game that Dalke will never forget, which included a 20-minute trip for a CT scan.
