Weather finally co-operates, CJES athletes fast at Melville meet

Many Canora runners achieved their personal best times of the season at the East Central District Athletic Association Cross Country Meet in Melville.

CANORA - “It was a beautiful day for running,” said Coach Jennifer Prychak after 14 Canora Junior Elementary School athletes competed at the East Central District Athletic Association Cross Country Meet in Melville on Oct. 2.

“Spirits were high and times were fast,” added Prychak, “with many of our runners achieving their personal bests of the season.

U9 Girls – 43 runners

  • Emily Mentanko – 8th (10:32)
  • Chloee Abbott – 13th (10:48)
  • Carmen Mydonick – 19th (11:28)

U9 Boys – 46 runners

  • Owen Kozmanuik – 12th (9:35)
  • Lachlan Baillie – 22nd (10:35)
  • Loyer Herriges – 23rd (10:38)

U10 Girls – 35 runners

  • Ava Sliva – 13th (10:23)
  • Mae McTavish – 24th (11:10)
  • Lilyanna Tomcala – 31st (12:09)
  • Mia Bryant – 33rd (13:03)

U10 Boys – 50 runners

  • Chance Unick – 14th (9:00)
  • Lowell Rice – 24th (9:21)
  • Anikin Nordin – 45th (12:36)

While this marked the final away meet of the season, CJES runners had one more chance to show off their skills at the CJES home cross country competition. This event is open to CJES runners in Grades 1-4 who have been consistently completing their nine laps and attending practices.

“It’s an especially exciting opportunity for our younger athletes, since only Grades 3 and 4 attend away tournaments,” concluded Prychak.
