Three-game winning streak for the Supers coincides with hot bats

The offense came alive as the Canora Supers picked up a win on May 30 in Yorkton versus the expansion Tigers, and then swept a double header at home against the Grandview Lakers the next afternoon.

CANORA - With their hitting miseries in the 0-0 tie against Saltcoats on opening day a distant memory, the bats came alive as the Canora Supers picked up a win on Friday, May 30 in Yorkton versus the expansion Yorkton Tigers, and then swept a double header at home against the Grandview Lakers the next afternoon.

May 30: Supers 19 at Tigers 6

The first home game in franchise history for the Yorkton Tigers did not go according to plan, according to Greg Andreychuk Supers player/manager. “The Supers spoiled the party with 19 runs on 15 hits, while taking advantage of some fielding miscues in victory.”

Shae Peterson of Sturgis pitched six innings while allowing five runs (two earned) on nine hits to pick up the win. “Nate Wolos made his Supers pitching debut; finishing up in the seventh inning and allowing one run on just one hit,” said Andreychuk.

The offence had contributions up and down the lineup highlighted by multi-hit games from Peterson, Kody Rock of Canora, Dylan Toffan of Canora, and Riley Stewart of Yorkton.

May 31, Game 1: Supers 14, Lakers 0

In game one of the doubleheader against Grandview it was almost the perfect start for Kody Rock, as he had a perfect game going into the sixth inning. However a seeing-eye single ended the potentially historic performance, but it was still a dominating display as he allowed just the one hit with 15 strikeouts as the Supers cruised to victory. That followed Rock’s 17K no-hitter on opening day against Saltcoats.

The offence pounded out 15 hits, including home runs by Toffan and Rock. Chaz Jaeb of Sturgis, Toffan, and Rock all had multi-hit games, and the defence played a clean game.

May 31, Game 2: Supers 20, Lakers 4

Believe it or not, this game was close until the third inning, as the Lakers took a 3-1 lead. However, the wheels fell off for the Lakers as inconsistent pitching and defence reared its ugly head, and the Supers never looked back.

“Kholton Shewchuk of Rama started on the hill, and held the Lakers scoreless after two innings,” said Andreychuk. “Unfortunately in the third they were able to string a few hits and runs together, as Shewchuk made way for Wolos to take over on the mound.”

Wolos went on to pitch the next four innings while allowing just one run on six hits to pick up the win. Chaz Jaeb would pitch the final inning.

The offence was led once again by multi-hit games from Rock, Toffan, Jaeb, Braden Kitchen of Yorkton, and Wolos.

With the wins, the Supers record improves to three wins and a tie. Next action is at Saltcoats on June 13.
