HANLEY - The game started out with some clear and sunny conditions, but it wasn't long before the dark clouds moved in and it was raining on the field during the football game between the Hanley Sabers and the visiting LCBI Bisons on Friday, Sept. 12.
The first game of the season for the Bisons while the second for the hosting Sabers, the action in the first quarter saw LCBI receive the ball, but it wasn't long before Hanley recovered it. However, not to be outdone, the Bisons persevered and found a way to turn things around, getting on the scoreboard first with a touchdown at the 7:45 mark on the clock, with the convert kick being good. Returning the favor just over two minutes later were the Sabers with a touchdown of their own at 5:24, with the convert being good. Things being tied at 8 points apiece, it was LCBI who managed to notch ahead on the scoreboard with a punt kick that was good for one more point.
The second quarter saw Hanley make strides on the field, including a great run downfield at the 8:33 mark. However, LCBI came back shortly afterward with a solid interception to flip the momentum. This maneuver led directly to the Bisons scoring another touchdown with a long run downfield, though the convert was no good. As the time was running out in the first half of the game, Hanley managed to score another touchdown, with the convert being good.
The score at halftime was 16-15 for the Sabers.
The third quarter was much slower compared to the first half of the game, but it still saw Hanley get ahead further on the scoreboard with touchdowns at the 9:35 and 5:50 marks, with both converts being good. This allowed the home team to maintain a substantial lead on their opponents, and they only managed to move further ahead in the fourth quarter, with two more touchdowns at the 9:30 and 6:12 marks, though only one of the converts was good.
The final score of the game was a 46-15 win for Hanley, making for the Sabers' second win of the season so far after a 52-0 win on Sept. 5 against Gull Lake.
LCBI moves ahead with their first game at home this season on Friday, Sept. 19 against Gull Lake.
