DODSLAND — A fire broke out in the Dodsland Sports Centre, in the morning of July 18.

Fire departments from Dodsland, Plenty and Kerrobert assisted with the flames and have remained on scene.

While the loss of the arena is devastating for the community, support from surrounding communities has been immense.

“We’re grateful to hear that everyone is safe and the fire fighters are working to contain the fire. The loss to one of our communities is immense. The rink isn’t just a building. It’s where memories are made, where the Dodsland Stars, Western Prairie Thunder and many others hit the ice, where kids learned to skate, where families gathered and is the heartbeat of the town,” said Coleville Agencies - Atlas York Insurance in an online post.

“To our hockey friends in Dodsland – Unity Minor Hockey is thinking about you all and is here to support you in any way we can,” said a post on the Unity Minor Hockey Facebook page.
