Yorkton - Melville split SJ preseason pair

The regular SJHL season starts next for the Terriers travelling to Weyburn for action Friday, then hosting the Red Wings Saturday.

YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers did a final SJHL preseason tune-up on the weekend with a home-and-home set with rival Melville.

The teams met Saturday evening at the Westland Insurance Arena where the Terriers took a 2-0 lead to the dressing room after 20-minutes of play.

Tylan Henrikson started the scoring with a powerplay goal at 3:01.

Jake Briltz scored the second at 11:06.

It took the Mills only 2:17 into the middle frame to cut the lead in half, on a goal by Grady Carmichael.

The Terriers clung to the one-goal lead until late in the third period when Melville found the equalizer on a powerplay goal by Wesley Olson.

The 2-2 tie held through the remainder of regulation time sending the game to overtime.

In extra time the Millionaires sent local fans home unhappy taking a 3-2 win thanks to a goal by Louis Nadeau at 4:04.

Callum Creig was in the Terrier goal facing 37-shots in the loss.

Kael Svenson went the distance for the Mills in the win facing 26-shots.

In Melville

Friday in the Mills’ barn it was something of a score-fest including the two clubs scoring six in the first period.

Rylan Oatman started things with an unassisted effort for the home side at 9:18.

Then the Terriers caught fire.

Jye Zawatsky scored at 9:37, followed by three powerplay goals in under five-minutes. Quinn Tavender, Mikale Budz and Vinay Junek notched the extra man effort.

The Millionaires got back on track late as Wesley Olson scored a powerplay goal at 19:10.

The middle period belonged to the Millionaires.

Wesley Olson scored a second powerplay goal, an effort sandwiched between even man goals by Wesley Golden and Devon Winder, leaving Melville up 5-4 after 40-minutes.

In the third however the Terriers would comeback for the win.

Zawatsky tied the game with a powerplay goal at 15:23, with Tavender getting the game winner 10 seconds later at 15:33 for a 6-5 victory.

Alexandro Montoya was in net for Yorkton facing 53-shots.

The Millionaires countered with Kael Svenson playing two periods, with Connor Doyle in net for the third period.
