CANORA - In what is quickly becoming a popular local tradition, Canora Junior Elementary School held its fifth annual Cross-Country Run on Oct. 10. Carefully marked around the playground, the course required runners to complete nine laps, totaling 2.25 kilometers.
Participants earned their spot in the race by consistently attending practices and completing nine laps during the season, demonstrating commitment and perseverance. Since runners younger than Grade 3 are not included in divisional tournaments, coaches Mrs. Prychak, Mrs. Clemmenson and Miss Kada decided to host a local event once again to celebrate their athletes’ hard work.
“Throughout the day, classes took turns cheering on their classmates, creating a supportive and encouraging atmosphere,” said Coach Prychak. “Most runners achieved new personal best times.”
Chance Unick produced the individual highlight of the day, “delivering a remarkable performance” in breaking the long-standing course record previously held by Karter Shukin. Shukin’s record of 10:20 had remained unchallenged for five years, but Unick surpassed it with a stunning time of 9:49. Anikin Nordin was second in a time of 11:23.

“The Cross-Country Team started the season strong with nearly 40 runners,” said Coach Prychak. “While some joined primarily to improve their physical fitness, others set their sights on competing in tournaments. A big thank you goes out to all the families who came out to cheer on their athletes.”
“We’re already looking forward to next season and wish our Grade 4 runners the best of luck as they move on and prepare to compete with Canora Composite School next year.”
