The Saskatchewan Roughriders Plaza of Honour will grow by three this fall, with offensive lineman Chris Best, long-time coach Alex Smith Senior, and Steve Molnar officially being inducted.
Best was a beast on the offensive line. Still, if you talk to a receiver about their best individual moment, they may recall the one big catch for a touchdown, a linebacker may remember a sack, and a kicker may remember their walk-off moment.
Best was asked what that moment was for him as an offensive lineman.
“There certainly are some that stick out for good reasons, and some that stick out for bad reasons. Some of the ones I'm most proud of probably go back to the 2013 Grey Cup. Ben Heenan and I had a good thing going on the right side there. And as one of our big drives where, Jock Sanders finished the drive off, but Kory Sheets got us there.”
“We were just massacring everything in front of us. Big double teams, taking care of the linebacker, and clearing paths. Later, you could see how wide we were clearing holes; you could drive a dump truck through them. And I remember that feeling, Benny and I being on the same page, just out there, just mauling. So yeah, get a little emotional just thinking about it. That was a big drive to seal it up. Not the end of the game, but start putting it out of reach for Hamilton. I know there's a bunch of stuff on TSN, they were circling us and everything.”
“Those are ones that felt good, really good. So those are always ones I think back to for sure.”
