You know the old saying: Good things come to those who wait, right? Well, for the reigning Canadian Football League's Defensive Player of the Year, Rolan Milligan Jr., he may have had to wait. Still, for the first time in his CFL career, he was able to return an interception for a touchdown in Saturday's win in Hamilton.
“It was fun, man, it felt good to finally get in the end zone after four and a half seasons. Something we were just talking about, too, being able to score on defence. It gives us a great chance to win games.”
Milligan, of course, led the league in interceptions a year ago, and he talked about the play. “Good pressure up front, they got in Bo’s (Bo Levi Mitchell’s) face and made him throw kind of a bad ball, and it was just waiting for me.”
Despite the pick-six, Milligan Jr. knows that there's room for improvement with his defensive secondary teammates, who gave up more than 300 passing yards to Hamilton's Bo Levi Mitchell, but he says they do have some momentum.
“I think overall, just winning a game, you know what I'm saying? Just team morale and knowing that, despite all the mistakes we made, we can still win games on the road—that says a lot about our team. So just continuing to build and knowing where we messed up and being able to make those corrections will be huge.”
The Roughriders are back on the field on Friday night when they travel to Toronto to take on the Argonauts.
