Between The Lines: The OG bye week fishing trip.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders' bye week continues, and according to running back A.J. Ouellette, the team has planned a trip to the great outdoors. Riders’ legendary linebacker Mike McCullough quickly pointed out on the SportsCage that it isn’t a unique idea.

“We started it, so A.J., the new 45, cannot take credit for an old 45 as part of organizing it. I think our first one was in '05, and now GM Jeremy O'Day organized it. I think there were only about six or seven of us.”

“It's good to have a GM who understands how important camaraderie is because you know that a six or seven-person fishing and camping trip morphed into about 60 guys coming out to Bon Echo. It was great. The guys look forward to it, even the guys who aren't real fishermen or outdoor types. We'd be talking about it for weeks leading up, and it was a big event because no wives or girlfriends were allowed. It was just the guys and a great time to get to know each other."

“I'll give credit to O'Day because he started it in '05, but we had a few years off, and then I kicked it back up, going to Bon Echo, and I think the guys carried it forward for a number of years after I left."
