The two-quarterback system in the Canadian Football League seems to be a mythical beast that can work in the short term but can't survive in the long term.
Nathan Rourke and Vernon Adams Jr. in Vancouver, Bo Levi Mitchell and Jake Maier in Calgary, Chad Kelly and McLeod Bethel-Thompson in Toronto, and Davis Alexander and Cody Fajardo in Montreal—all instances that worked for a bit but now have those quarterbacks on different teams.
While the evidence may suggest that it won't work, SportsCage and CFL on TSN analyst Glen Suitor believes it can in Edmonton with Fajardo and Tre Ford.
“Maybe they've had the conversation that we talked about last week. The coach walks in and says, " guys, we might need both of you in every game.” I mean I think back to the Burgess-Austin years I was part of and think that that was almost a rotation. I mean it wasn't a pre-set deal, but John Gregory would see who had the hot hand and what kind of defence we were playing against, and if it was a different sort of more man-style defence, we saw Burgess. If it was more of a zone look and that kind of look on defence, we saw Kent most of the time. So you know it can work.”
