Alex Smith Senior, Steve Molnar and Chris Best will officially be inducted into the Saskatchewan Roughriders Plaza of Honour in a ceremony tonight.
Best, a Grey Cup-winning offensive lineman with the Riders, doesn’t have a rushing or receiving yard, but he does have moments of dominance that stand out in his career.
“There certainly are ones, some stick out for good reasons, some stick out for bad reasons, but some of the ones I'm most proud of go back to the 2013 Grey Cup.”
“Ben Heenan and I had a really good thing going on the right side there. One of our big drives, Jock Sanders finished the drive off, but Kory Sheets got us there. We were massacring everything in front of us. There were big double teams on the linebackers, and we were clearing paths. Later, you could see how wide we were clearing holes the size you could drive a dump truck through.”
“I just remember that feeling, being on the same page as Benny out there mauling. It was a good time. I get a little emotional just thinking about it. That was that big drive.”
“That was to seal it up. Not the end of the game, but basically, you start putting it out of reach for Hamilton. There's a bunch of stuff on TSN. They were circling us and everything. Those felt really good. So, those are always ones I think back to for sure.”
Best, Smith and Molnar will also be recognized at halftime on Saturday when the Green and White host the Montreal Alouettes.
