The nervous energy from last week’s Canadian Football League draft is starting to transform into the optimism of rookie camps that will open across the league this week.

Seth Hundeby, the Saskatchewan Roughriders' fourth-round pick, will participate in camp despite planning to return to school in the fall.

That said, Hundeby told the SportsCage about a phone malfunction when Saskatchewan Roughriders head coach Corey Mace called to inform him that the team had drafted him, which nearly cost him that opportunity.

“I saw Corey Mace’s number come up, and like, holy cow, my heart just started beating fast, and I had a little bit of a mis-click of some screen that came up. I was like, I gotta get rid of this, I gotta answer Corey Mace. Technically, I declined the (Mace) call the first time, but then he called back right away, and I answered that one. So it was a little bit of a panic but it was super duper amazing to hear his voice.”

So, as a point of clarification, Hundeby hung up on his head coach when he called him.

“Technically, yes, not my best thing. I actually joked that'd be terrible if (I hung up on the phone call), then, doing it, my heart kind of sank, but he was good about it. He called me back right away, so it's a funny story, but I'm happy everything worked out.”
