If you've ever watched the movie, "The Blind Side," and who could resist with Sandra Bullock and Tim McGraw? Anyway, in the movie, we learn that one of the most important positions in football is left tackle, the player responsible for protecting the quarterback's blind side. Saskatchewan Roughriders’ second-year offensive lineman Daniel Johnson has been taking first-team reps at left tackle this week, and that opportunity isn't lost on him.
“It means a lot man, it means a lot because they trust me. I feel like I've gained their trust, and I hope I can continue to gain their trust. So it's awesome, I hope we can get out there and win.”
Johnson has been battling all of his life, starting with being born in a Kenyan refugee camp and moving to Canada with his family when he was just a year old. So, battling against some fierce CFL pass rushers is something that the 25-year-old is excited to take on.
“I just want to win, you know what I mean, so whatever, it's a play at a time, and whatever they give us is what we're going to block and what we're going to try to expose.”
Playing in Hamilton this week would be a homecoming for Johnson, and a rare opportunity for his family to see him play in person, as he played college ball at Purdue University in Indiana.
“It's awesome, I can't wait, it's an East Coast game, I'm from London, so it's going to be nice to see a bunch of family and all that, so it'll be fun, it'll be great.”
I was going to say, a little early Father's Day or what?
“Exactly, I get to see my dad, I get to see my mom, I get to see all my brothers and all that, so it'll be awesome.”
