Between The Lines: Do you have a screw loose?

I was once told by an educational advisor that you'll be set if you can find a job that when you go to work, it's like going to play. Well, for Saskatchewan Roughriders kick returners Mario Alford and Drae McCray, their job is on average six times a game waiting to catch a ball that can hang up in the air for as much as five seconds, while 12 players run on average 20 miles an hour at them to limit their ability to advance the ball. Sounds like fun, right?

Well, with Alford potentially missing Saturday's game in BC, McCray may get his first CFL start. Riders head coach Corey Mace was asked what made the Texas Tech returner stand out to him.

“Just fearless. You know, you gotta be, I don't understand. One, I obviously was never fast enough to do such a thing, but you got a bunch of guys screaming down there trying to take your head off and sometimes we ask you to run in the teeth of it. So you gotta have a little bit of a screw loose, which I think Dre does. And he did just that. You know, he hits the holes fast. It's a lot of space for him, you know, compared to the U.S. game. So yeah, man, we'll just, we'll see how it goes.”

So, naturally, the question for McCray is, Do you have a screw loose?

“Uh, yeah. I mean, I wouldn't call it that, but I guess you could say that.”

The Riders play BC on Saturday, a game you can follow across the 620 CKRM Cooperators Rider Broadcast Network starting at 2 p.m.
