Between The Lines: Darian Durant believes Saskatchewan hosting 2027 Grey Cup puts 'so much pressure' on Riders

The Saskatchewan Rough Riders have been named the 2027 Grey Cup Game hosts.

The Saskatchewan Roughriders have been named the 2027 Grey Cup game hosts. It will be the fifth time in franchise history that the Green and White have hosted the CFL Championship Game.

In 2013, quarterback Darian Durant led the Riders to a hometown Grey Cup victory and admits there can be extra pressure on the team to win.

“It really depends on what happens in 2025 and 2026. If the Riders can get a Grey Cup this year or next, the pressure is off. But to get the Western Final at home this year and not be able to get in the Grey Cup and win it, or next year, would put so much pressure on the squad. It's tough to be in that situation. But if we can get one this year or next, it won't be as tough.”

The Plaza of Honour inductee says the 2013 game will always be etched in his mind.

“Absolutely. I remember embracing the guys who we've been through the trials and tribulations of losing Grey Cups, the heartbreak of 2009, to going back in 2010 and losing again. When you look back and lose to a legend like (Anthony) Calvillo, it eases the pain just a little bit. 2009 was just devastating. So, all of the guys who went through that season with us, the way we lost that Grey Cup, and to finally get it at home. I wanted to embrace those guys first and foremost because to go from heartbreak and then the ultimate triumph is just the best feeling in the world,”
