Between The Lines: A new tradition in Riderville?

It's funny how traditions in sports can be born. In Vancouver, the now-familiar towel waving by fans began after Canucks head coach Roger Nielsen put a towel on the end of a hockey stick to protest bad penalty calls. In Florida, plastic rats are thrown onto the ice after Panthers victories, after Scott Mellenby killed a rat in the old Miami Arena and then went on to score two goals that night. While in Saskatchewan, a new tradition may have been born on Thursday when SportsCage producers began playing a train horn when Thomas the Train Bertrand Houdon scored both of his touchdowns. A tradition that Bertrand Houdon is okay with.

“I love it. I think we need it in the stadium after I score or something. That's amazing.”

Bertrand Hudon's success shouldn't surprise anyone, given the work he put in during the off-season.

“My friend and I went down to the states to a trainer that we know to work on our speed for the longest, and it was just a grind. It was four hours of working out per day, a strict diet the entire time, and my days were so busy that I had no time to do anything I wanted to outside of working out, so it kept me focused. Every day I was just in my playbook, so it kind of helped me out focus and come in even more ready for the season.”

That transformation also includes a change in diet, where he drinks a six-egg white smoothie every morning with offensive lineman Logan Furland. So did Bertrand Houdon power up with the drink before Thursday's two-touchdown performance?

“No, I haven't done it yet. I gotta go buy some, actually.”
