Rider Broadcast Network Colour Analyst, Luc Mullinder, shares his keys to the game before every Saskatchewan Roughriders game.
Luc’s keys to the game are for the KFC Game Day special: $4.95 for a Big Crunch and $7.95 for a Big Crunch combo at participating Saskatchewan KFC locations.
Here are Luc’s keys for Saturday’s game at B.C..
Three keys: I think that the one way to avoid this not being in a shootout is to play really well defensively, and in order to do that for the Saskatchewan Roughriders, there must be zero mental errors. There have been too many busts; it’s week five. Against Calgary, they had a couple of busts again. We can't have any mental busts on defence if we want to keep this efficient B.C. Lions' offence at bay.
So that's the first key. Zero mental errors.
We've got to be blitz beaters on offence. OK, Mike Benevedes is a veteran defensive coordinator in this league, but he is going to throw a zero blitz look in there every now and then. He's going to be throwing pressure at Trevor Harris. Right. He knows that Trevor Harris is comfortable throwing the football. Trevor Harris and Nathan Rourke are essentially the same quarterback, but Nathan Rourke is much more mobile. They're good quarterbacks. But again, I think we'll see some blitzes here. You've got to be blitz beaters. And if Mike Benavides comes at you with a zero blitz and they break in the man, someone's got to win a route, so let's get deep and be blitz beaters.
So third one, again, we've talked about this. We'll go back to Calgary. Look at the film. Then you go back to the four games before playing Calgary.
The major defence is the physicality you see, especially up front on the offence and defensive line. Right. This is a game founded on one-on-one impact and violence.
These guys each play 60 minutes of a game, which involves getting into 60 major car accidents within a 60-minute span. This is a physical game, and you have to be ready for the physicality that the Lions bring.
So there you go. Three keys, zero mental errors. Defensively, we have to be blitz beaters on offence.
And we need to play a lot more physically than we saw last week to get out of here with the W.
