Yorkton Terriers take two from Broncos

YORKTON - The Yorkton Terriers took to the friendly confines of Westland Insurance Arena Saturday hosting Humboldt.

The visiting Broncos started the scoring in the Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League contest on a goal by Tyrone Sobry 7:48 into the contest.

Jacob Strizzi doubled the lead with Humboldt’ second goal at 14:44.

The Terriers would cut the lead in half as Mikale Budz scored at the 18:32 mark.

Yorkton pulled ahead with two unanswered goals in the middle frame to secure a 3-2 lead through 40-minutes of play.

Kale Johns tied things with a goal just 27-seconds into the period, and Evan Auld gave the Terriers the lead with a powerplay marker at 10:53.

Tylan Henrikson extended the Terrier lead to 4-2 with a powerplay effort at 17:14 of the third period, and Cash Lanigan rounded out the 5-2 win with an empty-netter at 18:11.

Callum Creig was in the Terrier cage for the win facing 22-shots, while Charlie Tritt was tagged with the loss for Humboldt facing 43-shots.

Road win

The Terriers were in Humboldt’s barn Friday where Brett Buckley kicked-off scoring with a late first period goal – it came at 18:24 for a 1-0 Yorkton lead after 20-minutes of play.

It took Bronco Jacob Strizzi only 2:23 into the second period to tie things with an unassisted effort.

William Leonard responded quickly with a powerplay effort at 3:31 to restore a one-goal Terrier lead.

Kale Johns made it 3-1 through 40-minutes of play with a second period marker at 11:27.

Bronco Kristian Lacelle scored at 11:15 of the third to narrow the gap to 3-2.

Zachary Hertz got that one back for Yorkton with a goal at 14:19.

Humboldt again inched closer when Brayden Skogstad scored an unassisted goal at 14:50 to make it 4-3.

And empty net goal by Kale Johns at 19:31 put the game away for Yorkton with a 5-3 final.

Callum Creig was in net for the Terrier win facing 41-shots.

Nick Kotai took the loss facing 40 shots on the Humboldt net.

The Terriers were scheduled to host Weyburn at the Westland Insurance Arena Tuesday, but results were not available to press time.
