YORKTON - The Yorkton Kinsmen Maulers would split a home ice pair with the Battlefords Stars on the weekend.

The The Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey teams met in the first game at the Westland Insurance Arena Friday, where the Stars started on a hot streak. The visitors scored three unanswered goals in the opening 20-minutes to take a commanding lead.

Nash Coquet opened things only 58-seconds into the contest, Noah Larre added a powerplay effort at 7:27, and Chance Regush added one at 17:39.

Aaron Kowalyk scored the only goal of the middle frame, an unassisted marker at 19:57 to make it 4-0.

The Maulers finally put one on the board as Dylan Veroba scored the only goal of the third period to round out a 4-1 contest.

Cole Ivey was tagged with the loss in the Mauler net facing 32-shots, while Luke Norman registered the win facing 21-shots for the Stars.

The teams met again Saturday afternoon.

The Maulers took the lead with the only goal of the first period. The goal was notched by Austin Root.

Brodyn Pladson made it 2-0 1:34 into the second period.

Nash Coquet cut the lead in half with an unassisted effort at 4:04, then knotted things 2-2 at 10:20 with an unassisted short-handed effort.

The Stars inched ahead with a powerplay goal by Jaxon Brabant at 14:41 to lead 3-2 through two periods of play.

Pladson tied the contest 3-3 just 41-seconds into the third frame.

Keaten Thomson gave the home side a one-goal lead at 7:22, with Seth Holtvogt adding an empty netter at 19:44 to give the Maulers a 5-3 win.

Ivey was again in net this time facing 43-shots for the win, while Cody Marciniuk was tagged with the loss facing 31-shots in the Stars net.
