Saskatoon swimmer Blake Tierney is the Sask Sport July Athlete of the Month.
The 23-year-old broke multiple records across two events while representing Canada at the World Aquatics Championships in Singapore.
Tierney competed in the men’s 200-metre backstroke event and swam to a fourth-place finish. In the process, he broke the Canadian record twice, once in preliminary action and then again in semifinals with a time of 1:55.03 seconds.
Tierney also set an individual Canadian record for 100-m backstroke as the lead-off swimmer in the men’s 4x100-m medley relay with a time of 52.95 seconds. As a group, the relay team set a record twice, once in the preliminaries and once in the finals, with a time of 3:29.75, breaking a 16-year-old record.
