ASSINIBOIA — In just two weeks, the Richardson Pioneer Jr. B Rebels will be back on home ice, starting with fall camp the weekend of Sept. 5.

Fall camp is part of a busy weekend at Southland Co-op Centre. In addition to the Rebels’ three-day camp, there will be a Western Hockey League exhibition game and the Banjo Bowl tailgate party at the exterior big screen.

Team media spokesperson Carly Tendler told the Assiniboia Times the first exhibition game for the Rebels will take place Sept. 14 against Fort Knox. The first regular season game will see the Rebels host the Regina Capitals on Sept. 27.

The Prairie Junior Hockey League has expanded, with the Moosomin Steelhawks joining the Bill Johnston Division, which the Rebels are in, making for a six-team division and a little more travel for the team. The PJHL now has 12 teams in two divisions, north and south.

Another change sees the Delisle Chiefs moved to Martensville in the north division.

The Town of Assiniboia benefits beyond the arena during Rebels hockey season, as PJHL teams and their fans contribute to economic spinoffs in the hospitality sector.
