Provincial track & field meet yields hardware for Battle West

West-central high schools compteted at the SHSAA Provincial Track and Field meet, held in Moose Jaw, June 6 and 7.

MOOSE JAW — Many local teens made their way to Moose Jaw over the weekend of June 6 and 7, for the Saskatchewan High School Athletics Association’s Track and Field meet. Students from Unity, Wilkie and Luseland represented their schools and the Battle West Athletics region, with some of them bringing home provincial champion status.

From Luseland, Lily Holman has been dominating on the track for the past few years, with no signs of slowing down for the provincial meet. Holman ran in the Intermediate division, winning a silver in the 3,000 m run and two golds in the 800 m and 1,500 m runs.

Unity Composite High School was also represented in Moose Jaw over the weekend. Mya Kostiuk and Tylan Blanchette both competed in Intermediate events. Kostiuk placed second in high jump and Blanchette placed fifth in shotput. In the Junior division, Casey Lewin placed fifth in the 200 m, third in the 100 m and won gold in discus.

McLurg High School also had students attend the weekend track meet. Cheyanne Cey competed in the senior division, placing fifth in hurdles and seventh in the 400 m. Kayden Fenrich, who competed as a junior, won bronze in javelin.
