OUTLOOK — As the calendar has moved into the middle of October, the progress of the high school football season for many teams has been enjoyed by fans around this part of the province, and now, things are beginning to move into playoff mode after an action-packed season of competition.
A number of game results across both the 1A and 2A sides saw the following action take place recently.
In the final week of 1A six-aside play, it was the top two teams of Conference 1 putting an exclamation point on their regular season. The Biggar Blazers beat the Plenty Wildcats 54-30 to cap off a 6-0 regular season, while the Kerrobert Rebels moved to 4-2 with their 86-31 under-the-lights win against the Macklin Sabres.
2A six-aside play saw two games as well, the bigger of the two taking place Friday night between the Rosetown Royals and Unity Warriors. Under the lights on their home turf, the Royals beat the Warriors in a close game 49-40 to avenge a loss earlier in the season to Unity, the result moving each team’s record to 5-1 entering the playoffs. The other game on Thursday saw the Eatonia Spartans take an 85-58 loss to the Maple Creek Warriors.
In 9-aside play, North Battleford’s John Paul II Crusaders beat Meadow Lake on Tuesday to finish the season at 4-1. The final week of action then got underway on Friday as the Kindersley Kobras played their final game of the season, beating Meadow Lake 84-32 to finish 2-3 on the season. Then under the lights in Delisle, the Rebels beat the Humboldt Mohawks to finish 3-2, with Humboldt taking their first loss to finish 4-1.
Taking a look at Conference 3 on the 1A side, the Hanley Sabers are in the top spot with five wins and no losses. In second are the LCBI Bisons of Outlook, with three wins and two losses. Coming in third are the Gull Lake Lions with two wins and three losses, and finally, the Central Butte Bulldogs finish things off in fourth with no wins and five losses.
There are two more games to be played at the end of this week in Conference 3 before their regular season comes to a conclusion, as Gull Lake will host Hanley on Friday, Oct. 17. On that same date, with a special start time of 6 p.m., will be the traditional “Friday Night Lights” game between the hosting LCBI Bisons and the Central Butte Bulldogs.
The conclusion of both of these games will set the stage for league playoffs that will lead to provincial action.
