OUTLOOK — The air is a little cooler and the trees have changed colours, signalling fall in Saskatchewan, but in addition to the changing of the weather, attention is once again turning to the action happening in local rinks as another hockey season has started back up.

The SJFHL (Saskatchewan Junior Female Hockey League) has launched once again for the 2025/26 season, and a rematch of last year's championship final saw the Outlook Ice Hawks come back and gain redemption over the Regina Wild.

The Hawks faced the Wild (formerly known as the Jr. Rebels) on Regina's home ice on Oct. 11, which saw a back and forth game played between the two teams.

The first to get on the board were the Ice Hawks, with Mikiya Anderson scoring for Outlook late in the opening period for a 1-0 lead, and then nearly a full period later Regina's Nyah Lang found the back of the net on the powerplay to tie things up, but then less than a minute after that, Teanna Crossman restored the Ice Hawks lead with a powerplay goal of their own.

The Wild made it 2-2 just under five minutes into the third period as Lang scored her second powerplay goal of the game. After five minutes of tied hockey, it was Outlook returning to the powerplay where Kovi Serhyenko scored the game winning goal to go up 3-2. With the lead, Ice Hawks goalie Sydney Martin made the final of her 39 saves on the night to help Outlook secure the season opening win.

With their first win of the season, Outlook will hope to keep the momentum going when the team travels to Kindersley this Saturday, Oct. 18, to take on the hosting Western Prairie Klippers with a game time of 7:15 p.m.

Outlook's game schedule this season sees the team on the road, with away games against the Saskatoon Prairie Blaze on Oct. 24, the Southwest Impact in Gull Lake on both Nov. 8 and 9, and the Taylor Toyota Lynx in Lumsden on Nov. 15 before the Ice Hawks begin hosting duties back in Outlook on Saturday, Nov. 22 when Regina comes to town for a rematch. From there, the Impact comes to Outlook to play on Nov. 29, followed by an afternoon home game the next day against the Lynx.

With a number of new signees to the team, including Lloydminster's Isabel Pratte, Warman's Mikiya Anderson, Loreburn's Emmerson Tastad, Saskatoon's Kayla Schroeder, Paradise Hill's Austyn Eaton, Corning's Alex Reid, Saskatoon's Grace Millar, and Martensville's Ella Stow, the team is looking to start fresh this season with some new power players on the roster as the season continues to unfold.

In addition to the hockey action out on the ice, the Ice Hawks are teaming with the senior men's Hawks and Outlook Amateur Sports to present an evening of comedy, music and food on Saturday, Jan. 3 at the Outlook Civic Centre. Those who may be interested can watch for information on ticket sales in the coming months.
