ESTEVAN — Colton Getzlaff says he has notched goals similar to the one he had Oct. 15, but none have been as dramatic.

Getzlaff scored on a one-time shot with 0.1 seconds to play in the third period to tie the game at 3-3 for the Eagle Sky Estevan Bruins and send the contest to overtime. The Bruins went on to defeat the Kindersley Klippers 4-3 after a shootout.

Getzlaff said he “blacked out” after scoring the goal.

“I just remember [Ewan] Rennie having it [the puck] at the top at the blue line. He slid it over to me, and I just had a good whack at it, and it happened to go in," Getzlaff said.

He added he knew time was running out in regulation, so he thought Rennie was going to shoot the puck, but instead Rennie made the pass. After the goal, the officials and the players conferred for some time before the referees allowed the goal to stand.

“They’re always going to review it in an important game like that, but I thought for sure I had it,” said Getzlaff.

The centre-ice scoreclock displayed 0.0 seconds remaining and was reset to 0.1 seconds to play in the third. The teams had a token faceoff before overtime. Neither team scored in the extra frame, so the contest went to a shootout, where Estevan outscored Kindersley 2-1 on goals by Rennie and Rylan Williams.

In regulation, the two teams were scoreless after the first period. Rennie tallied early in the second to open the scoring, but Kindersley responded with two goals for a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. Carter Onrait’s goal with under four minutes to play in the third tied the game at two, but Kindersley retook the lead with a short-handed goal with under two minutes to play.

Dylan Adams made 29 saves in the victory.

The Bruins will host the Nipawin Hawks on Oct. 17 and the Flin Flon Bombers the following night. Both games will start at 7 p.m.
