ASSINIBOIA — Unfavourable weather did not hamper golf season in Assiniboia as residents and visitors kept the nine-hole golf course busy.

An exciting addition to the golf venue were new signs, fabricated by Jordon Godsen from Able II Print.

Laurie Hawkins, spokesperson for Assiniboia’s Golf Club, says, “We received grants for the highway sign and clubhouse sign from the Golden South Wind Community Benefit Fund (GSWCBF). Donating businesses and groups sponsored our tee box and hole signs.”

Updated signage at a community golf course can significantly enhance the player and visitor experience. Updated signs with clear hole numbers, yardages and course maps allow golfers to navigate the course with ease, leading to a more enjoyable, efficient round.

Well-designed and located signs help enhance the Assiniboia Golf Course brand, projecting a positive image, creating a more welcoming and professional atmosphere.

In addition to these core benefits, updated signage can be used to showcase sponsors, providing valuable exposure as well as revenue opportunities.

“So far, we’ve hosted seven tournaments as well as a few reunion events. We still have our glow tournament on Aug. 30, CIBC golf for a cure (breast cancer) on Sept. 6, and Men’s Open on Sept. 14. We will also host a year-end members event as we wrap up the season,” added Hawkins.

Although the golf club says the greens did not start out great after the winter season, they are truly grateful for the dedication and efforts put in by their grounds crew and volunteers who worked tirelessly to get them in shape. Much-needed rain in the past number of weeks has also helped.

“We did some tree trimming this spring and hope to do some more this fall. We were able to purchase an AED machine for the clubhouse with donation money from the GSWCBF as well. With the building of the new cart compound last year, we had to move our driving range and as a result it is still under repair. Plans are in the works to get the trenching done for moving the water lines and then seeding grass. We hope to add some targets as well to finish it off,” states Hawkins.

There is plenty of golf season yet to be had at Assiniboia’s golf course. The closing date usually falls around Thanksgiving but the club executive says they will keep everyone up to date using their social pages.

The community’s golf club also announced that they will be offering specials for golf, such as 2-for-1 Mondays, half-price golf cart Thursdays, as well as continuing with weekly lunch specials along with the popular wing night Thursdays.

“New this season though is our clubhouse will be staying open for restaurant services once we close the course. We hope to continue to serve lunch and supper into November. Patrons should once again stay tuned to our social pages for hours and daily specials.”
