After seeing their string of four straight SESBL championships come to an end last season, the Canora Supers are intent on winning it all again in 2025.

CANORA - The Canora Supers were the four time Southeast Senior Baseball League (SESBL) champions heading into the 2024 season. Unfortunately, the streak ended at the hands of the Parkland Pirates in a hard fought final series. Although disappointed, the Supers are back in 2025 looking to win another championship.

The roster is a work in progress, with a couple of additions and subtractions, according to Greg Andreychuk, player/manager. Joining from the 18U ranks will be Nate Wolos, Lucas Latham, and Porter Wolkowski of Canora. Other additions will be Braden Kitchen of Yorkton, and possibly a couple more. Departing the Supers will be the heavy hitting, long time first baseman Travis Mentanko, as he has decided to “hang them up.”

Here are your 2024 Canora Supers:

Kody Rock of Canora: “He’s basically the Shohei Ohtani of the Supers. He is relied on heavily to deliver the goods on the mound, at shortstop, and with the bat.”

Kholton Shewchuk of Rama: “He will continue to bat in the middle of the order and drive in plenty of runs, while pitching and playing anywhere in the infield.”

Ian Quewezance of Kamsack: “Suiting up for his seventh season as a Super, Ian will always play flashy defence in the middle of the infield, and hit for a high average.”

Evan Rostotski of Norquay: “‘Rook’ will continue to play outfield, and be a positive influence in the clubhouse.”

Braden Kitchen of Yorkton: “An experienced player coming to the Supers via the Yorkton Marlins. He has a good bat and can steal a few bases.”

Brendon Landstad of Canora: “Has a good arm and very good speed. Could this be his breakout season?”

Lucas Latham of Canora: “A graduate of the Canora minor ball program looking to make his mark with the big club. Should provide outfield depth and good speed.”

Grady Wolkowski of Canora: “Will play outfield and improve with the bat.”

Logan Wolkowski of Canora: “Can play infield, outfield and possibly pitch.”

Porter Wolkowski of Canora: “He’ll provide a steady glove in the outfield and has good potential as a hitter.”

Nate Wolos of Canora: “He will pitch and play infield while swinging a good bat.”

Nathaniel Minhinnick of Invermay: “Can play infield or outfield. Has good speed and a good arm and plays the game with assertiveness.”

Sean Kolodziejski of Hyas: “Sean returned in 2024 after taking the 2023 season off. Work may limit his availability, but he will provide a steady bat, solid catching, and intensity.”

Derek Palagian of Hudson Bay: “This will be year 21 as a Super, and he will continue to play left field and pitch on occasion.”

Darcy Blommaert of Yorkton: “A Super since 1999, he still enjoys putting on the jersey and helping out the team as a relief pitcher and outfielder.”

Shae Peterson of Sturgis: He’ll play first, second, and hopefully make more strides as a pitcher this season. He is always willing to put in the work to improve.”

Bo Babiuk of Sturgis: “He plays outfield and second base, and always has a great attitude.”

Jordan Auger of Russell, Man.: “You know someone is serious about baseball when they are willing to drive three hours round trip for a weekday home game. He has a good bat and can play first base or outfield.”

Tyrel Thorpe of Langenburg: “The former Langenburg Legends ‘Swiss army knife’ will play the same role for the Supers. He will play any position asked, and always take great hacks at the plate.”

Dylan Toffan of Canora: “Work commitments always limit his availability. But he is always eager to get in the lineup at third, short, or pitcher. His bat is always explosive, and it is always a bonus when Dyl-Toff is around.”

18U call-ups: “Riley Stewart of Yorkton, Ty Sleeva of Canora, Kayden Quewezance of Kamsack, and possibly some Canora Reds may be asked to fill in on occasion.”

Greg Andreychuk of Yorkton: “Also a member of the Supers since 1999, Greg will mostly manage/coach, but will be the ninth player if necessary.”

The SESBL will be a five team league this season. The Langenburg Legends will not return, and have been dissolved from the league. Also the Yorkton Marlins will be taking a one-year leave of absence. However, there will be two new teams joining the league, the Yorkton Tigers, and the Grandview Lakers. Joining these teams along with the Supers will be the Parkland Pirates and Saltcoats Lakers.

Each team will play a 12-game schedule, with the regular season wrapping up on July 7. With all teams making the playoffs, it was decided that the No. 4 seed would host the No. 5 seed around Wednesday, July 9. The semifinals would be completed between Monday, July 14 and Friday, July 18 as a best- of three series, with the league final taking place between July 21-31 as a best of 5. All higher seeded teams will get the extra home game.

Greg Andreychuk of the Supers will also serve as league president, as the Yorkton Marlins were slated to be the executive this season.

The season begins on Thursday, May 15 in Melville vs the Pirates. The home opener for the Supers is set for May 23 with the Saltcoats Lakers providing the opposition.
