Southeast Saints win their first-ever game

The Saints defeated the Grenfell Prairie Fire 5-3 at the Harry O Memorial Arena in Midale.

MIDALE — The Southeast Saints first-ever game in the Saskatchewan Senior Women’s Hockey League was a success. 

The Saints defeated the Grenfell Prairie Fire 5-3 on Oct. 18 at the Saints’ home rink of the Harry O Memorial Arena in Midale. Saints’ founder Megan LeBlanc, who also co-founded the league, scored the Saints’ first-ever goal 3:30 into the first period to give the home team a 1-0 advantage. Her sister Marci assisted on the tally. 

Megan LeBlanc also had the second goal with one second to play in the first period, giving the Saints a 2-1 advantage, and assisted on two Saints’ goals. 

Reauna Blight, McKenna Walls and Brooklyn Chicoine also scored for the Saints. 

Kaleigh Churko was in goal for the Saints.  

Former Bienfait resident Teanna Sieben was among the Grenfell scorers. Katelyn Muchowski and Brittany Keisig had their other goals. Cyanna Callfas was the Grenfell goalie.  

The game featured a pre-game introduction of the Saints' players, as a pre-game ceremonial faceoff. Jenna Merk, who founded the league with LeBlanc, dropped the puck. 

The Saints’ next game will be Oct. 25 when they host the Rouleau Reign at 7 p.m.
