SJHL RECAP: Humboldt Broncos win battle of unbeatens, defending champ Melfort Mustangs earn first win

Two out of three home teams picked up wins Tuesday, while the list of unbeaten squads dropped to just two

Battlefords North Stars 5 – Warman Wolverines 2

Linken Fisher led the charge for the North Stars with two goals, while Connor Baumbach turned aside 32 shots to secure the win.

Captain Anthony Campbell chipped in with three assists, helping Battlefords earn their first home victory of the season.

Humboldt Broncos 3 – Weyburn Red Wings 0

In his 100th SJHL game, Lipton product Connor Miller scored the game-winner and added an assist, while Charlie Tritt was flawless in net, stopping all 36 shots for his second shutout in three starts.

Jacob Strizzi added a power-play goal in the second period, his third goal of the campaign to seal the win for Humboldt.

Melfort Mustangs 3 – La Ronge Ice Wolves 1

The Melfort Mustangs rallied after losing starting goalie Madden Mulawka to injury late in the first.

Backup Kason Kobelka stepped in and stopped all 14 shots he faced for his first career SJHL win.

Rhett Vedress scored the game-winner, while Blake Girard netted his first SJHL goal.

Melfort’s penalty kill was perfect, going 5-for-5 on the night.
