The Melfort Mustangs earned their second straight win at the 2025 Centennial Cup in Calgary after a 5-2 victory over the Rockland Nationals on Tuesday afternoon.

The teams played a scoreless first period that was delayed due to ice problems on their main ice sheet at Max Bell Centre. The game eventually moved to the Max Bell Centre #2 surface.

After the Nationals opened the scoring late in the second, Will Munro evened it up for the Mustangs to make it 1-1 through two periods.

In the third, Nolan Roberts gave Melfort their first lead of the night just 5:49 into the third period before Tristin Ziola made it a two-goal game and got the eventual game winner with seven minutes remaining in regulation.

Just under two minutes later, Anthony Hall cut the Nationals' deficit back to 3-2, but empty netters by Brayden Westerlund and Ashton Hutchinson sealed the win for the SJHL champions.

Mustangs goalie Kristian Coombs made 23 saves on 25 shots in the win, while Nationals netminder Benoit Forget allowed three goals on 25 shots in the losing cause.

Melfort will wrap up their pool play on Wednesday afternoon against the Valleyfield Braves with puck drop at 4:00 PM.
