The Regina Riot will kick off the 2025 Western Women’s Canadian Football League season on the road on Sunday afternoon against the Manitoba Fearless.
The season opener for both teams will be historic for the league. It will feature the first-ever meeting between two female head coaches in WWCFL history. Regina’s Claire Doré will lead the Riot against the Fearless Andrea Buckland alongside co-head coach Craig Bachynski in a groundbreaking step forward for women in football leadership.
Additionally, it will be the first game on the sidelines as head coach of the Riot for Doré.
"We’re incredibly proud to be part of this milestone for the league. It’s a testament to women's growing presence and impact in all aspects of the sport."
This will be the first time this season that the Riot will face an opponent not wearing their colours after and Red-Black preseason scrimmage last weekend. Doré says that they used that game as a learning platform to elevate their strategy, focus, and execution heading into the regular season.
"This team is focused, hungry, and committed to raising our game. The Red vs. Black game gave us a valuable opportunity to compete, and now we’re ready to take what we’ve learned onto the field in Winnipeg."
The game is set for Sunday, May 4 at noon (SK Time) at St. Vital Mustangs Field in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
