It's undeniable that quarterback Trevor Harris, through the first two months of the CFL season, is off to the best start of his career. Completing three-quarters of his passes for over 2,000 yards, Harris is on pace to beat his best year which was in 2015 with Toronto, where he threw for 4,354 yards. Harris credits his current success to offensive coordinator Marc Mueller.
"Yeah, I think he's a big part of it. I think it'd be foolish to not think that Marc has done that. But I think we have a pretty darn cool QB room in terms of learning from one another with Mark putting together the game plan, Quay (receivers coach Marquay Daniels) getting the receivers ready, the O-line putting it together. I think it all kind of goes together. And I've always told you guys, you know, if we lose a game I'll get too much blame and if we win a game I'll get too much credit. I deflect the credit here; I think it's our staff and our players. It's just me trying to just do my 1/12th," Harris stated.
The relationship between Harris, who is 1,050 days older than Mueller, is extremely tight and Harris knows why.
"He's hyper intelligent. I've always known that. He's open to learning some of the things that I've kind of done throughout my career and he's open to doing some of those things. He kind of trusts me to alter or maybe look through a different lens on certain plays. But there's also times where I say like, 'Well, can I do this?' and I'll say, 'No, no, no, I think this is the way to do it, and here's the film. This is why.' So the intelligence to be able to know when to tell somebody that's played as long as me to shut up and read it the way he wants me to do it, and the humility to also allow me to be myself and allow me to kind of have my fingerprints in the game plan a little bit, and never try and take any credit, even though he deserves a ton of it because he's the man. Just don't tell him I said that."
The Riders are on their bye week and will return to action Saturday, August 16th, when they host Hamilton.
