The Canadian Football League has announced changes that include modifying the rouge, adjusting the game clock, shortening the field, and moving the goal posts to the back of the end zone. The latter of those changes raised the eyebrows of legendary Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Darian Durant.
“The goal post is there. You have to have a little bit of arc on your throw, and make sure that you're aware of it. It's just part of the game. I love that about the CFL. I love that some things aren't just like the NFL. I don't know if that's the direction the Commissioner’s going, and he wants it to be more like the NFL. I think I heard Nathan Rourke kind of go off about the similarities of the two games. But, you know, the goal post being there is just part of the game. That's how it is. It changes the game when you miss a field goal. It makes the quarterback a bit more wary of where it is, and you have to put some arc on those throws down there.”
Fellow quarterback Nathan Rourke is upset that the players weren’t consulted, which Durant agrees with.
“Absolutely. I think there should have been some type of survey. Even if you're not going to take the guy's word, or you don't even care what the players say, you will do what you want to do anyway. At least allow them to voice themselves. But you have to consult with the guys who play. I think it's only right.”
