What a week it has been in football, with both the National Football League and Canadian Football League drafts being held.
Every player picked has their own story about discovering who chose them.
Super Bowl champion and TSN analyst Luke Willson told the SportsCage that he will never forget his draft day.
“I was drafted in the CFL the year before the NFL, and that one was probably the strangest thing that's ever happened to me. I was in Florida and in extended spring playing for the Toronto Blue Jays, and I told a couple of the guys I was going to get drafted to the CFL that night. I went and had a workout, and then I went on my phone, and I'm like, man, I never got a phone call. I'm wondering if I really did not get picked in the CFL draft.
Willson continued, “I thought I knew I'd be drafted late because I had another year of school and potentially NFL, but I'm like, there's no way someone didn't take a flyer. So, I searched for CFL draft results and scrolled through the names, but I didn't see mine. I'm like, man, this is embarrassing. I got to go back to tell the boys I wasn't picked.”
“I get back to the hotel, and they're like, Congrats. I'm like, yeah, I wasn't picked. And they said, ‘Yeah, you were. You were picked in the fifth round. You went to Toronto.’ Turns out I looked at the wrong year of the draft,” Willson recalled.
