The Saskatchewan Roughriders released their 2024 financial statement at their annual general meeting on Tuesday night. After posting a deficit in 2023, the team rebounded last season with a $2.1 million net profit.
Riders Chief Executive Officer and President Craig Reynolds was happy with the season both on and off the field.
"Anytime you're able to have every major revenue item grow and then manage your expenses, you tend to have a really good financial year," he said.
Reynolds points to the obsidian success and $6 million in merchandise sales as a big win for the team.
"I think you can't talk about last year without talking about the success of the alt logo and alt jersey launch, and that had a significant impact on the financial statement."
The question arises: Did the Riders know how popular the new look would be?
"You know, I think we were reasonably confident that it would resonate with our fans, but I don't think we had any idea how much it would resonate. I think we saw that from the launch; from day one and the days following, we quickly realized we were going to blow past our projections."
Reynolds says that 2025 is off to a great start at the gate, as the team has seen a 78 percent increase in season ticket sales, and that's just the start.
"I'm fairly confident we're going to see some attendance growth this year. This game's trending quite positively at this stage right now compared to the same point last year. We've already sold 7,000 more tickets than we did at this stage last year."
