Rookie camps are underway across the Canadian Football League. In Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Roughriders camp is somewhat of a homecoming for University of Saskatchewan Huskies receiver Daniel Wiebe.
Wiebe was selected in the eighth round by the Riders after an impressive performance at the CFL combine, where his 4.52 40-yard dash time was the fifth-fastest time posted. His 15 bench-press reps were also third among wide receivers, and his shuttle time of 3.95 seconds was the fastest recorded at the national combine in more than a decade.
However, Wiebe's biggest disadvantage is his 5-foot-10 height, which Saskatchewan Roughriders Vice President of Football Operations and General Manager Jeremy O’Day asked Wiebe point blank about. Wiebe’s response was impressive.
“I said, take a look at Weston Dresslery. You know, he's obviously every Saskatchewan Riders fan. They all know who that is. Every football fan knows who that is. So, you know, that was my answer there.”
