First-year Saskatchewan Roughrider players were on the turf at Griffiths Stadium in Saskatoon on Wednesday for the opening day of rookie camp.

The camp is an opportunity for rookies to learn the nuances of the Canadian game and stand out to earn an invite to the main camp, which opens on Sunday. For the Riders' sixth-round draft pick, Gideon Agyei, he wants people to remember his name; it’s just the pronunciation that people struggle with.

“I've heard Ajai, Agai, Aggie, and that's pretty much the main ones I've gotten so far.”

Agyei’s name was one to remember thanks to an interception and an impressive pass break-up in the opening workout.

“It felt really good, Coach (Joshua) Bell and Coach (Jordan) Linnen are always around us making sure we're doing good and not just going through the motions. Making sure everything movement-wise is effective and what we're doing on the field is going to be used in-game.”

First-year hopefuls are back on the field later this morning…
