You have to love the passion of CFL fans. That passion has been on full display after TSN analyst and Super Bowl champion Luke Wilson referred to the Saskatchewan Rough Riders' 39-32 win over the Toronto Argonauts last week as "hot garbage." Among the many points Wilson made was the lack of urgency in the final two minutes from both teams and the infrequency of deep balls that quarterbacks threw.
Riders' legendary quarterback Darion Durant didn't throw Wilson under the bus but says there's a good reason behind the style of play.
"It's all about winning games, and I'm sure that guys who get paid and whose livelihood depends on wins and losses, I'm sure they're not complaining about how ugly the game is or what's going on or how you make a play.”
Durant added, “Look, check downs are a part of the game. If you're in a situation where defences are just sitting back and you need to take the underneath throw, you just have to take it as a quarterback. We have a job too, and our job isn't to throw it to the other team, right? So if you have nine guys sitting back in coverage and the running back is the only guy open, you have to throw it to the open guy. It's all about wins and losses."
