Changes to the game continue dominating talk around the Canadian Football League, and reactions pour in. SportsCage analyst Charleston Hughes is in favour of the changes, and if he were in charge, he would make another one.
“The one thing I would change is because it was different back in the day, but it's different now: the Canadian ratio. When I played in the CFL, the Canadian ratio was really needed to maintain the Canadian Football League, and the talent levels were at different places back then. U.S. football players were outpacing the Canadian players. It's not like that anymore.”
The 41-year-old Hughes added, “There's a lot of talented Canadian players right now, and guys are developed at a whole different rate than they were back in the day. That Canadian-U.S. talent separation isn't really needed anymore. Some of the best players in the Canadian Football League are Canadian.”
“When you think about it, the Philpots are elite receivers. Those guys are unreal and are thriving in the league and playing at a very high level. They are the team's go-to receivers over all the American guys. So when you look at that and the talent in the league right now, it has nothing to do with the ratio. It has everything to do with talent.”
