Seth Hundeby is one of the Saskatchewan Roughriders' 2025 CFL Draft picks and he already has a plan for life after football.
"I have a little bit over one year of mechanical engineering left," Hundeby told the SportsCage. "The thing for me was recognizing that football will come to an end at some point. I want to do something that I'm passionate about, something I'm good at and engineering really had a calling to me. I got to secure that, put it in the back pocket and then pursue football for however long it'll have me."
The Saskatoon native spent his post-secondary career with the University of Saskatoon Huskies from 2021-2024. Last year, he played 11 games for the Huskies, totalling 51 tackles, three sacks, one forced fumble and one pass defended. Hundeby also won academic honours from 2021-2022, earning U Sports Academic All-Canadian status.
During the 2025 CFL combine in Regina, Hundeby recorded 4.70-second time in the 40-yard dash, achieved 20 reps with 225 pounds on the bench press bar, registered a nine-foot, seven-and-a-half-inch broad jump, 6.88-second three-cone drill, a 4.15-second shuttle and a 35-inch vertical.
"I was really happy that I showed the way that I knew I could show," Hundeby said while reflecting on his CFL Combine performance. "On any given day, some days you feel good, some days you wake up on the wrong side of the bed and don't test as well. I'm happy that it reflected the work that I put in and my ability. I was quite happy with how it went at the combine."
Hundeby was a popular person when it came to the interview process at the CFL Combine.
"I actually got an opportunity to talk to all nine of the teams," Hundeby said. "It's really fun getting to meet some of these people, you see them on TV, it is good to match faces to names and get to know their personality. It was a really cool opportunity."
The Riders selected Hundeby in the fourth round, 34th overall during the 2025 CFL Draft.
"I saw Corey Mace's number come up. Holy cow, my heart started beating fast. I had a little bit of a misclick, some screen came up, I was like I gotta get rid of this, I gotta answer Corey Mace," Hundeby explained. "I technically declined the call the first time, but then he called back right away and answered that one for sure. It was a little bit of a panic, but it was super duper amazing to hear his voice."
Hundeby has a message to Rider Nation about what the fans can expect from him.
"I have a lot of passion for football. I love running to the ball and I'm big, fast, strong and physical," Hundeby said. I love putting my love for the game on tape, so if I get more opportunities, then I think that's what you're gonna see."
