After years of wild-card hopes and missed chances, the Blue Jays finally have the edge they’ve lacked: momentum — and the standings to back it up.
At 63–43 and leading the AL East, this team is built to win. But to make a real October run, they need to go bold at the deadline. No half-measures. No waiting. The time is now.
Toronto’s offense is rolling, but their aging rotation needs help. Kevin Gausman and Jose Berríos are steady, but Chris Bassitt and Max Scherzer can’t carry the load alone. A proven arm like Mitch Keller or even a rental like Merrill Kelly would give them a much-needed playoff-caliber starter.
The bullpen? Good, not great. October exposes that. Adding a high-leverage reliever like Ryan Helsley or a lefty with experience could be the difference in a tight ALDS game.
That doesn’t mean gutting the farm. Prospects like Arjun Nimmala and Tucker Toman should stay. But secondary pieces? They’re in play — as they should be.
Fans are tired of caution. Last year’s minor moves led nowhere. With stars in their prime and a clear shot at October, the Toronto Blue Jays can’t afford to play it safe.
The window is open. It won’t stay that way forever.
Time to swing big.
