Rider Broadcast Network Colour Analyst, Luc Mullinder, shares his keys to the game before every Saskatchewan Roughriders game. Luc’s keys to the game are for the KFC Game Day special: $4.95 for a Big Crunch and $7.
Here are Luc’s keys for Saturday’s game in Montreal.
One of the most important things about playing the Montreal Alouettes is that they'll give you a ton of defensive looks. They're gonna mix up coverages. They're gonna line guys up in places. Those guys are gonna disappear to other places. They're gonna come when you least expect it. So the first key here is a Trevor Harris key.
It's don't be in a rush, right? You still have to snap the football. Get the play in, snap the football, but don't rush to make a decision on what you see pre-snap because post-snap it's probably gonna be a much different look.
So, for a quarterback that's playing at such an efficient pace, today, the way he can diagnose pre-snap and then post-snap will make all the difference in the world. So slow yourself down a bit, and that's how you're gonna become a blitz beater today.
The second key to the game is winning the turnover battle. This is an Alouettes defence that's number one in the CFL in turnovers, and they've produced 41 points off the turnovers that they've been able to get against their opponent. Saskatchewan is also a defence that is capable of turning the football over, capable of getting to the quarterback. So hopefully we're able to speed up McLeod Bethel-Thompson's clock in his head and capitalize on an area that I think is going to be really important today.
Offensive line communication is the third key. We just talked about Trevor Harris needing to assess pre-post-snap. The same goes for the offensive line.
They got to go to the line of scrimmage out of the huddle, pointing out where the MAC and safety are. But more importantly, when that changes after the ball snap, our offensive line will have to understand where their eyes and hands need to go, right? So if you've got two guys lined up over you, if one of those guys drops, you have to understand where your eyes need to be.
If both of them come, you need to understand who you're gonna block when it comes to both of those guys, because the running back is expecting you to pick up, for instance, the inside guy, and him to pick up the outside guy. So, offensive line communication is the third key. It's going to be extremely important today against a good defence.
And that’s the three keys to the game for KFC.
