Warriors, Rebels play for 2nd place in their respective conferences

Conference league finals were played over the weekend to determine which teams will continue in the provincial playoffs.

UNITY — Tensions were high over the weekend as the football conference finals were played in Unity and Kerrobert.

The Unity Warriors were once again faced with the Maple Creek Redmen on Oct. 17 on the Pat Orobko Field in Unity. The Warriors, who were looking to repeat their previous games against their southern opponents, came into the game ready to win.

The Redmen fought hard to get the ball into the end zone throughout the first half, but it was the tough Warrior defensive line that kept the opposition from advancing. On two occasions during the second quarter, the chain gang were taken out on the field to determine if the ball had surpassed the down.

In the final five minutes of the game, Maple Creek was able to secure another touchdown, but was not able to surpass the Warriors, with a final score of 36-19. Unity will now travel to Wakaw on Oct. 25 for the 2A provincial quarter-final.

The Kerrobert Rebels also hosted the Plenty Wildcats once again on Oct. 18. The Wildcats pounced on the Rebels early on, going into the fourth quarter with a 38-14 lead; however, the Rebels were not giving up. The Rebels continued to fight for the points in the last 12 minutes of the game, and just as the clock expired, scored a touchdown to win the game 42-38. They will now travel to Lemberg on Oct. 25 for the 1A quarter-final.
