OUTLOOK — Following the regular season of SHSAA 1A football action, attention turned to provincial playoffs as players, coaches and fans are looking forward to seeing how their favorite teams square up in the weeks ahead.
For the LCBI Bisons, their playoff aspirations were ended in decisive fashion on Friday night, Oct. 24 in Hafford, where they took on the hosting Vikings.
The action was fast and furious and luckily for LCBI supporters back in Outlook and area, the school's Facebook page livestreamed the game for those wishing to stay informed.
As the game progressed, it quickly became apparent that the Vikings had both come to play and come to win, as Hafford started racking up points on the board left and right. As the host team rocketed up the scoreboard, with LCBI claiming their own points here and there, a decision was made at the end of the third quarter to implement the league's mercy rule, which allows a losing team's coaching staff the choice of whether to end a game.
As such, the Vikings took the victory on this night over the Bisons at a score of 99-18.
Hafford now finds themselves matched up against Carrot River, with the teams set to face off in Carrot River this coming Saturday. The other 1A game will see Hanley and Lemberg do battle on Lemberg's home field. The 1A Provincial Championship will be decided one week later on Nov. 8.
The loss in Hafford ends the 2025 football season for LCBI, but supporters of the Bisons saw the team rally back in a very noticeable way this year. During the regular season, LCBI enjoyed a much more prosperous win/loss record as compared to the last number of years, with a 4-2 game record and a total of 292 points scored, with two wins apiece against both Gull Lake and Central Butte and two losses against Hanley.
Coached by Jesse Ens, Michael Haugen and Owen Redlick, coaches assistant Sam Bull and training by Adie Lee, this year's LCBI Bisons football team was comprised of players Brody Ireland, Knute Gjesdal, Murphy Ellis, Tyson Erickson, Anthony Thiessen, Leland Righetti, Kole Shepherd, Tyler Wright, Aiden Tran, Beckett Nelson, Nash Dolan, Jakob Gjesdal, Gavin Shepherd, Joshua Murphy, Will Alton, Nicholas Turton, Benjamin van Reeuwyk, Hans Hovdestad, Eli Hundeby, Fisayo Odesola, Julian Senek and Jude Ellis.
