UNITY — High school football teams hit the field for the final league games before the Thanksgiving weekend, with some teams finding themselves having to fight once more to earn a provincial run.
The Eatonia Spartans hosted the Maple Creek Redmen on Oct. 9. The Redmen took home the win 85-58, advancing them to the playoff draw.
Rosetown hosted Unity on Oct. 10 under the lights at their senior game. Although the Royals got the lead over the Warriors early on, the visitors were not going down without a fight. The Warriors started adding points to the board in the second quarter, closing in on the Royals. However, the Warriors were finding it difficult to get the lead, walking off the field with their first loss of the season, 49-40 for Rosetown.
The Unity Warriors will now face off against the Redmen at home, with the game slated for Oct. 17 at 3:30 p.m.
Also on Oct. 9, the Biggar Blazers hosted the Plenty Wildcats. While the Wildcats tried to hand the Blazers their first loss of the season, the green and gold continued to hold the lead for a 54-30 win.
The Kerrobert Rebels were also hosting the final league game against the Macklin Sabres. The Sabres put up a strong fight, but it was the Rebels who remained on top with an 84-31 win. However, these teams were fighting for more than just a chance at provincials.
As both teams met on the gridiron over the season, 50/50 draws were also being sold, with proceeds going to the Canadian Cancer Society. With their combined sales, more than $650 was donated.
