MOOSE JAW — Two standout former Moose Jaw Warriors who went on to long National Hockey League careers will return to the Friendly City this fall to join the Warriors and Legends Hall of Fame.

The team announced that forward Kyle Brodziak and defenceman Johnny Boychuk will be inducted during the 2025 Warriors and Legends Hall of Fame Banquet on Friday, Nov. 21, at the Temple Gardens Centre. Both will also be honoured the following night before the Warriors’ home game against the Swift Current Broncos.

Brodziak, from Vegreville, Alta., was selected by the Warriors in the first round, 14th overall, in the 1999 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft. He went on to play 273 regular-season games for Moose Jaw from 2000 to 2004, recording 81 goals, 104 assists, and 185 points, along with 38 playoff appearances.

In his final season, Brodziak wore the captain’s “C” and led the Warriors to their first-ever East Division title. He topped the team in scoring with 39 goals, 54 assists, and 93 points, ranking third in the WHL that year. His performance earned him selections to the WHL East First All-Star Team and the CHL Second All-Star Team.

Brodziak was drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the seventh round, 214th overall, at the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. He went on to play 917 NHL games over 15 seasons with the Edmonton Oilers, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues, posting 129 goals and 167 assists. His two-way reliability made him a fixture in the league until back injuries forced his retirement in 2019.

Boychuk, from Edmonton, Alta., joined the Warriors midway through the 2002–2003 season after being acquired from the Calgary Hitmen. Over two seasons in Moose Jaw, he suited up for 89 games, tallying 18 goals and 37 assists for 55 points. He played a key role on the blue line during the club’s 2004 East Division championship run, alongside teammates such as Brodziak and Troy Brouwer.

Selected 61st overall by the Colorado Avalanche in 2002, Boychuk later established himself as a steady, hard-hitting defenceman over 725 NHL games with the Colorado Avalanche, Boston Bruins, and the New York Islanders. He won the Stanley Cup with the Boston Bruins in 2011 and later became a veteran leader with the Islanders before retiring in 2020.
