CALGARY — An Estevan hockey product has been invited to take part in Hockey Canada’s national Under-17 Development Camp, set for July 19-23.
Defenceman Boston Tait, who was born and raised in Estevan and played his minor hockey in the city until this past season, was one of 79 players from across the country named to the U17 camp, which is an opportunity to introduce top Canadian players to the Hockey Canada Program of Excellence, and allow them to compete against other top players in the country while being evaluated for inclusion on the U17 World Challenge roster.
The 2025 U17 World Challenge is scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 8 in Truro, N.S., and will feature two Canadian teams and four other international squads. A Canadian team has won the tournament three of the last four years, with the two Canadian rosters facing off against each other in the tournament’s championship game last year.
A first-round selection by the Wenatchee Wild in the 2024 Western Hockey League Prospects Draft, Tait appeared in six regular-season games for the Wild and notched a pair of assists.
He spent the season with the Regina Pat Canadians U18 AAA team, with whom he posted three goals and 20 assists over 41 games, plus three points in 10 Saskatchewan Male AAA Hockey League playoff games. He helped the Pat Canadians win the Telus Cup national U18 AAA championship for the first time since 1999.
He also captained Saskatchewan's entry at last season's WHL Cup tournament.
