Eighteen southwest Sask. residents named to Team Sask.

Canada Summer Games run Aug. 8-25 in St. John’s, Nfld.

SASKATCHEWAN — Twelve athletes, four coaches and two mission staff from southwest Saskatchewan will be among the province’s contingent at this year’s Canada Summer Games which run Aug. 8-25 in St. John’s, Nfld.

Among them are three participants in the Special Olympics swimming competition – Chayce Foster of Gull Lake, and Swift Current residents Tate Zimmerman and Rahimay Priebe. All three athletes will compete in the 50-metre freestyle, backstroke and breaststroke events, along with the 100 m freestyle and backstroke races.

Swift Current will also be represented on the track with Rowan Reimer and Carter Tuplin competing in both the male 400 m hurdles and 4x400m relay; by Mason Fauser in male baseball; by Griffin Striker in male soccer; by Navy Louma in female soccer; by Kai Foster in male box lacrosse; and by Avery Underhill in female swimming.

Adriaan De Necker of Kyle (male rugby sevens) and Hailey Burton of Rosetown (female softball) will also be among the province’s representatives in Newfoundland.

Saskatchewan coaches for the Games include Steven Michaluk (male box lacrosse) and Jacqueline Powell (female swimming) from Swift Current, Val Marie’s Brad Clifford (male cycling) and Kyle resident Brittany Marshall (women’s beach volleyball).

Weisgerber will serve as mission staff for Saskatchewan during the Games.

Saskatchewan finished seventh in the overall medal table at the COVID-postponed 2022 Canada Summer Games in Niagara Falls, Ont. with 32 medals – three of them gold.
