CJES runners overcomes obstacles, shine at cross-country meets

in spite of multiple downpours, Canora runners had a successful meet at Deer Park in Yorkton.

CANORA - On Sept. 15, the Canora Junior Elementary School cross country team traveled to Yorkton to compete on the 2km course at Deer Park Golf & Country Club. Coach Jennifer Prychak reported that “Despite multiple downpours, our runners showed incredible determination in their pursuit of personal bests.”

The wet weather made it difficult to track all the results, but CJES did achieve a pair of impressive top-10 finishes.

“Carmen Mydonick placed 10th in the U9 girls race, and Ava Sliva finished ninth in the U10 girls race,” said Prychak. “Soaked shoes and clothes aside, our team’s spirit and perseverance made the day a success!”

The cross-country season continued on Sept. 26 with the CJES team making the trip south to Saltcoats for a chance to compete in the Austin Summit.

The day was definitely drier, but this time the wind was the biggest weather challenge.

“The weather was a bit blustery, but thankfully the wind was at the runners’ backs as they tackled the challenging, nearly vertical hill at the finish line,” said Prychak. “Despite the tough conditions, our team showed incredible determination and spirit throughout the race.”
